Benton, Ky.—Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is on his way to Marshall County in the wake of this morning’s tragic shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton. As was reported earlier, one person is deceased and multiple victims injured. Authorities have not said yet whether the deceased person is a student or teacher.
Christi Cross of Paris is at the scene where her nephew attends school. Cross was headed to Paducah and received a call from her mother telling her there was an active shooter at her nephew’s school. “So, I came here instead,” she said. Cross is comforting her sister as they wait for her nephew to be released from the school. Her nephew apparently was an eye-witness to this morning’s events.
Numerous local residents are related to teachers, students and families who attend Marshall County High School.
In his statement this morning, Governor Bevin said, “Much yet unknown. Please do not speculate or spread hearsay. Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us.”
Students are being bused to North Marshall Middle School and can be picked up there by their parents.
A Community Prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. tonight at Impact Church in Benton.
