Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man was arrested for filing a false report, leaving the scene of an accident and possession and consumption of alcohol by a person under the age of 21 following an incident Sunday night.
Arrested was Luther Bruce Ragsdale, age 20, of Allie Campbell Rd.
Near midnight on Sunday, officers were checking on vehicles parked in the middle of the roadway in the 400 block of Jackson St. and pulled behind a Ford Fusion that was causing a traffic hazard. The windows were down and no one was around.
Officers realized the Ford Fusion had struck two parked vehicles and the driver fled the scene. At the same time, dispatch received a call from Ragsdale saying he had been carjacked at gunpoint and an unknown male had stolen his vehicle.
According to the report, other officers brought Ragsdale to the wreck location and spoke with him about his claim. Ragsdale at first said he had been robbed trying to buy weed. Officers told him his story didn’t make sense. Ragsdale then said he had wrecked the car and lied because he didn’t have insurance.
