Pregnant Woman Dies Of Flu In Tennessee

Nashville, Tenn.—Officials with the Tennessee Department of Health have confirmed that a pregnant woman from Middle Tennessee has died of the flu.

Department of Health Spokesman Bill Christian said the department learned of the woman’s death on Monday.

The woman’s death marks the state’s fourth death during the 2017-2018 flu season. Health officials said last week that three children had died from the flu—two in East Tennessee and one from Middle Tennessee.

Christian noted that children and pregnant women “are among the groups of people at highest risk for complications of seasonal flu.”

State officials are not releasing details of the four cases, including where the victims lived, citing the privacy of the patients and their families.

Flu activity is widespread across Tennessee and the U.S. and everyone over the age of six months is urged to have a flu vaccine.
