McKenzie, Tenn.—The McKenzie Fire Department was busy Saturday, extinguishing two fires—one that destroyed an SUV and another fire at a recycling center.
The first call was at 6:42 a.m. for the vehicle fire at 1122 Clear Lake Road. When firefighters arrived, the SUV parked in the driveway was engulfed in flames.
Assistant Chief Roger Christian told WENK/WTPR this morning that the cause of the blaze is still undetermined. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze and keep the fire from spreading to the nearby garage and home, owned by the Toombs family.
The second call was to Dale’s Recycling on West Euclid Ave. at 10:28 a.m. Christian told us employees were burning pallets in an old dumpster and embers blew onto cardboard that was on the ground, which spread over a small area.
