Paris, Tenn.—Details of last night’s crash between a Henry County Medical Center ambulance and a semi tractor have been released to WENK/WTPR by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. A paramedic in the ambulance was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville where he is being admitted to the trauma unit.
The paramedic, Wesley Profitt, age 52, of McEwen, was treated for several hours in the emergency room at Vanderbilt until admitted to the trauma unit earlier this morning.
According to THP Lt. Brad Wilbanks, the ambulance was traveling south on Hwy. 79S in Lane #1. A 1993 International Tractor had just pulled out of a business on Hwy. 79S and was traveling southbound in the same lane, getting up to speed.
The ambulance struck the rear of the truck and both vehicles came to rest in the median.
According to the THP report, the 2017 Ford ambulance was driven by Kelly Coleman, age 26, of Atwood. The driver of the truck was John Nanney, age 74, of Paris.
Both Coleman and Nanney also were injured and a HCMC spokesperson said this morning their injuries were minor.
The ambulance was transporting a patient and the hospital spokesperson said earlier that after the accident, the patient was transported by the McKenzie EMS and was reportedly doing fine.
The accident occurred around 6:40 p.m. near the entrance of Kenny’s Meat Market. Henry County Sheriff’s deputies, rescue squad and Paris fire units were called to the scene.
