Nashville, Tenn.—The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting that three pediatric flu-related deaths have been recorded so far in the 2017-2018 season.
Two cases of child deaths have been recorded in East Tennessee, with one in Middle Tennessee. Department officials said the state usually sees two to three pediatric flu-related deaths each flu season.
With flu widespread in the state, Department officials again urged everyone over six months of age to get a flu shot. Numerous schools throughout the state have closed due to flu.
Tennesseans are again reminded of habits that could help prevent the spread of flu:
- Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer
• Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
• Stay home if you are sick
