Newbern, Tenn.—One of the police officers injured in a shooting in Newbern has been released from The Med in Memphis, while the other officer remains in the ICU at the hospital.
Newbern Patrolman Cranston Fisk sustained two gunshots during the incident: one to the leg and the other to the foot.
The other officer, Alex Martin, is in stable condition at the ICU after sustaining one gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Both of the officers were shot during a disturbance at Betty’s Bar in Newbern on New Year’s Day.
A donation fund has been set up at Newbern City Hall for the officers and their families. In a Facebook post, the city of Newbern said, “Two officers with the Newbern Police Department were seriously injured in the line of duty early New Years morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to these officers and their families. n an effort to help these officers, the City of Newbern is setting up a donation fund. If you feel led to give please contact the Newbern City Hall at 731-627-3221 or in person at 103 Jefferson St in Newbern. All donations will go directly to the officers and their families.”
Meanwhile, one suspect has been arrested. Jeremy Avery was arrested by U.S. Marshals Monday night and is being held without bond at the Dyer County Jail.
