Cottage Grove, Tenn.—A rural Henry County man was arrested on drug and weapon charges after attempting to flee from an accident earlier today near Cottage Grove.
Jamison Hayes, age 20, of 6900 Hwy. 140N, Cottage Grove, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of a vehicle crash on a report that gunshots had been fired and a man ran from the scene. Deputies found Hayes who complained of a gunshot wound to the hand.
Deputies found a white sedan that had been wrecked in a ditch down the road. Further investigation showed the incident began on Palestine Road where other wreckage was found and then continued to Cottage Grove.
According to Captain Adam Jenkins, it appeared to investigators the incident was drug related. It was determined that when Hayes fled, he had a backpack with him which was later recovered with a large amount of marijuana in it.
Hayes was taken to the Henry County Medical Center where it was determined he had not been shot, but injured himself running.
