“Shiver On River” Still On, But With Major Changes

Buchanan, Tenn.—Organizers of Monday’s annual New Year’s Day “Shiver On The River” said today the event is still on, but with major changes. Due to the extreme cold and bitter wind chills, it will be turned into more of a ‘toe-dip’ in the water rather than anyone going all the way into the water.

Organizer Linley White made this announcement: “Yes, Shiver-on-the-River is still on for tomorrow. Due to the extreme cold we will probably alter what we do, i.e., the Big Toe Dip.”

“We will still do the t-shirts and meal, but we will not suggest that anyone should go all the way in. We will allow people to fill out the registration forms while sitting in their cars and with the sound of an air horn we will rush the river together, get our pictures taken and get back into our vehicles.”

“Bring towels so that we can change clothes at the Paris Landing State Park Inn. With the high winds predicted we will probably not have the warming tents…..they will blow away.”

“This will be a year that we will surely remember as the coldest Shiver we’ve ever done. Looking forward to seeing you there. Remember, it’s about the kids and programs we provide for them.

Registration is at noon, with the event at 12:30 p.m. Trophies are awarded for costumes and for most money raised. A New Year’s Day brunch is held for participants at the Paris Landing Inn after the event.
