McKenzie, Tenn.—Fire destroyed a home at 191 Elm Street in McKenzie overnight and firefighters were back at the scene this morning after it rekindled. Firefighters battled both the blaze and bitter weather conditions.
McKenzie Fire and Rescue was called to 191 Elm Street shortly after midnight and found heavy fire conditions when they arrived. The fire was primarily in the attic and the roof collapsed during the blaze.
The dispatcher told WENK/WTPR this morning that the residents of the home got out of the house safely.
At the time of the fire, wind chill was -2 degrees.
All units were called to the scene, with Assistant Chief Joe Perkins in charge. Firefighters were again at the scene at 7:30 a.m. today when the fire rekindled.
