Elkhorn Road Residence Destroyed By Fire

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Springville, Tenn.—A 100-year-old residence currently used as a hunting lodge was destroyed on Elkhorn Road in Springville was destroyed by fire last night, but no one was injured in the blaze.
Springville Volunteer Fire Chief Bob McDowell told WENK/WTPR this morning that the house at 5600 Elkhorn Rd. was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 9 p.m. last night.
“Nobody lives in the house, though. The owner told us that it’s used by duck hunters,” McDowell said. No one was in the structure when the fire began.
The one-story frame house was a total loss.
“We’re thinking at this time the fire was caused by an electric heater,” McDowell said.
Oakland Fire Chief James Martin told us this morning that the property owner told him the structure was at least 100 years old.
Springville called for mutual aid from Oakland and Paris Landing Fire Departments. McDowell said firefighters were on the scene until around 1 a.m.
McDowell could not immediately state the property owner’s name since it was written on paperwork he did not have in front of him early this morning.
