Clifford The Dog, Dale O'Daniel To Be Stars Of Parade

Paris, Tenn.—Clifford the Big Red Dog from WLJT-TV will be the Grand Marshal of the upcoming Holly Jolly Electric Christmas parade in downtown Paris, while recently-retired Paris City Employee Dale O’Daniel has been named the Parade Ambassador.

The 11th Annual Holly, Jolly Electric Christmas Parade takes place at 5 p.m. Saturday, December 9 immediately following the Downtown Christmas Festival.

Grand Marshal Clifford the Big Red Dog from WLJT will bring plenty of joy to the little ones. “Clifford is the star of movies, television and books,” said Kathy Ray DPA executive director. “If you have children, you won’t want to miss Clifford and Rocky T – The Reading Ranger, from our region’s great Public Broadcasting Station, WLJT.”

Dale O’Daniel has been named the 2017 DPA Ambassador for the parade. “One of the biggest honors our organization can offer an individual is the invitation to join us for this event as the DPA Ambassador,” said Ray. “Dale is recently retired from the City of Paris, where he worked so hard to make Christmas and dozens of downtown events really shine. He is one of the individuals who make Paris stand out as a special place and we are thrilled that he will be riding in the parade on this festive night.”

The grand marshal and DPA ambassador will have lots of company on the parade route. “We are so excited to be getting applications from folks who are lighting up floats, golf carts, ATVs, small tractors and even marching units for this spectacular event,” said Vickey Roberts, event chairman. “With a minimal entry fee of only $10, folks can join the fun.”

Trophies are awarded in the following categories: Most Christmas Spirit, Best Religious Theme, Best Decorated Vehicle, Best Decorated Float, Best Decorated Golf Cart of Small Tractor, Best Marching Unit and the coveted Clark Griswold Award for the best, knock-your-socks entry.

“Folks enjoy participating in this parade because the decorating is minimal; the focus is on the lights, not little details,” said Vickey Roberts, committee chairperson. “It’s one of the most popular events of the Christmas season.”

Applications and guidelines are available at the DPA office at 203 North Fentress Street or online at VisitDowntownParis.com. For more information call the DPA office at 731-653-PARIS.
