HS Students Build Picnic Tables, Donate To Grove

Paris, Tenn.–Henry County High School’s construction class has just completed their Plus Endowment grant project, building five picnic tables that they will be donating to the E.W. Grove School for students who want to eat outside.

The residential construction class is overseen by Coach Harrison.

Harrison said, “This was a great hands-on project that the students could monitor from start to finish. Not only did the students master over 15 different state standards, they also learned what it’s like to work on a team of builders, and to build confidence in their ability to complete a project. Thank you Plus Endowment for allowing us this opportunity.”
After mastering tool knowledge and safety for this project, these students were given a very basic sheet of directions for building a picnic table. Students followed those instructions to properly master and assemble their tables. Their first task was to evaluate a cut list and basic directions for assembling a picnic table.

From the cut list, students formulated a supply list, called Paris Supply, and ordered the exact amount of materials they determined they would need. Once the material had been delivered, each group began measuring and cutting their supplies to match the directions.

The class finished with 5 perfect picnic tables to deliver to Grove.
