Paris, Tenn.—An “unforeseen failure of hardware” at the Puryear substation caused a power outage overnight to some 2000 customers of the Board of Public Utilities (BPU). BPU crews were dispatched immediately to address the problem and the outage only lasted some 60 minutes.
BPU General Manager Terry Wimberley told WENK/WTPR this morning the outage was caused when an insulator broke inside the substation. “Totally unforeseen. We’re looking into what caused it. There was no wind or storm, but it was the coldest morning we’ve had so far this year and we’re trying to figure out if that was somehow responsible.”
The outage occurred around 3 a.m.
Wimberley reminded the public that information on outages is posted on the BPU’s Facebook page.
