Deer Strike Causes Car Fire

 
 
Buchanan, Tenn.—We all know about squirrels causing power outages, but a deer causing a car to start on fire? A car owned by a Jackson man is a total loss this morning after it hit a deer and then caught on fire at 13874 Hwy. 79N. Paris Landing Fire Department units were dispatched to the highway at 5:30 a.m. and found a 2014 Chevy Cruze engulfed in flames. Fire Chief Reggie Coles said the driver, Willie Owens of Jackson, said he struck the deer and the car then caught on fire. No human was hurt in the accident. The car was a total loss estimated at $7,000. Two trucks and eight firefighters were on the scene for an hour. (Reggie Coles photo).
