Paris, Tenn.—A Big Sandy man was killed in an industrial accident at PML this afternoon.
Bobby Smith, age 46, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Monte Belew, Henry County Sheriff’s deputies, County EMS, Paris Fire Department and the County Rescue Squad were called to PML around 1:30 p.m. on a report of a man trapped in the mixer. When Sgt. David Powell arrived, Smith’s fellow workers had freed him from the mixer and Smith was lying on the floor.
According to Powell’s report, Coroner Danny Tucker was called to the scene and pronounced Smith dead.
Captain Adam Jenkins also issued a press release on the incident. “The subsequent investigation revealed that Mr. Smith had gotten entangled in a piece of industrial equipment”, according to the press release. “While Sheriff’s Office Investigators responded to the scene this is NOT a criminal investigation but rather a cause of death investigation. Due to this tragic incident happening in an industrial workplace the victim will be sent for an autopsy.”
Sheriff Monte Belew said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Mr. Smith.”
