Guilty Plea In Child Sexual Abuse Case

 
 
Murray, Ky. – A Murray man pleaded guilty today to charges of sex abuse and sodomy involving a child.
 
Joseph A. Lawrence, age 55, appeared in Calloway Circuit Court today and entered a guilty plea.  Lawrence had been arrested in May following a five-hour standoff with law enforcement in Calloway Co.
 
Lawrence’s plea agreement including pleading guilty to five counts of First Degree Sexual Abuse and one count of First Degree Sodomy in return for a 20 year prison sentence.
 
Formal sentencing will take place by Judge James Jamison on February 6, 2018, in Calloway Circuit Court.
 
Lawrence was arrested by the Kentucky State Police after the Mayfield Post received a report involving the sexual assault of a minor.
 
Preliminary investigation showed that Lawrence, between 2014 and 2016, engaged in numerous sexual encounters with a child under the age of 12.
 
Joseph A. Lawrence was located on May 13th at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Peach Orchard Road. After an approximate 5 hour standoff, Lawrence was taken into custody without further incident.  He was charged with twenty counts of First Degree Sexual Abuse and one count of First Degree Sodomy.
