Boil Water Order Remains In Effect For Murray Water System

Murray, Ky.—The boil water order that was issued for the Murray Water System on Thursday morning remains in effect. The continuing problem with the water system is made more complicated by this weekend’s Murray State University Homecoming activities. Homecoming Weekend always draws hundreds more people into Murray.

The boil water order is issued for all customers of the Murray Water System including the water districts and customers of South 641 (Hazel), District 2, and Dexter/Almo Heights.
According to the latest update from the city of Murray, after discovering a penetration of a 30 inch water main on Thursday afternoon, plans were put into place to repair the water main overnight. These repairs have taken longer than anticipated.

The boil Water order includes water for drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, brushing teeth, or any other activity involving consumption of water.
Water should be brought to a full, rolling boil for at least 5 minutes to ensure that it is safe for consumption. Boiled water may be stored at room temperature or refrigerated in a closed container until needed.
Dining Services operations on campus are utilizing safe practices in cooking and it is safe to eat on campus.  And, the university is taking steps to make sure bottled water for drinking is available in each residence hall.
Updates regarding timelines will be provided as more information becomes available.
