Carroll County To Hold Rare Primary

Huntingdon, Tenn.—For the first time in recent history, a Republican primary will be held in Carroll County next year.

The McKenzie Banner is reporting the Carroll County Elections Commission approved a request from the Carroll County Republican Party to hold a party primary in May 2018 for the August General Election.

The Republican Party Executive Committee members earlier voted to hold a primary election for all county level offices, including County Mayor, Sheriff, Trustee, Clerk, Circuit Court Clerk, Register of Deeds, Property Assessor, Road Supervisors and the County Commissioners.

The Carroll County Republican Party noted that fewer than 100 Republicans determined who ran on the Republican ticket with caucuses and that primary elections will provide voters more of a voice.

It is estimated the primary will cost $25,000 to taxpayers.

In recent years, candidates have been selected by party caucus.
