Paris, Tenn.—What a difference a good cleaning makes. You can gauge the progress of the Henry County Cemetery Committee volunteers by viewing the gravestones in front that have been cleaned, contrasted with those in the back of the photo that are still waiting for their cleaning.
Committee members and other volunteers have been working hard restoring and cleaning gravestones at the historic Paris City Cemetery—the city’s oldest—which is located at the dead end of Ruff Street near the First Baptist Church parking lot.
The committee has held fundraisers—including a cemetery tour last summer which drew hundreds of people—to finance the project. In addition, family members of people buried there have donated funds to have their gravestones restored and/or cleaned.
