Bethel Announces Homecoming Alumni Awards

 
 
McKenzie, Tenn.––Bethel University has announced its 2017 Homecoming Alumni
Award Winners. Carroll County native Tim Maharrey has been chosen as this year’s
Alumni Achievement Award Winner. Fellow Carroll Countian Jimmie Sue Staten is
being presented the University Service Award. Susannah B. Lewis is this year’s
Young Alumni Achievement Award Winner.
 
The Alumni Achievement Award is presented to Bethel University alumni who have
achieved a high level of success since their graduation from Bethel. Tim Maharrey (class
of 1994) has worked for Global Multi-Billion Dollar companies like Allied Signal, 3M,
and Conzzeta (FoamPartner). During that time, he has been in charge of businesses in
North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. Maharrey has managed businesses up
to 500MM dollars with over a thousand employees.
 
In these roles, Maharrey has also made appearances on the ABC television
show “Shark Tank,” a show where budding entrepreneurs have a shot at getting funding
for their business ventures.
 
The University Service Award is presented to individuals who have made a significant
mark on the University either through their dedication to service to Bethel, dedication to
their area of expertise or impact on the community. Jimmie Sue Staten, a ‘77 graduate of Bethel, was a Bethel Balladeer, a Bethel College Cheerleader, and a member of Alpha Phi Sigma Sorority. Staten lives in Huntingdon where she serves as the Current Chairperson of the
Carroll County Democratic Party, the President of Carroll County Democratic Women,
and Past President of the TN Federation of Democratic Women. She also serves as a
member of the Bethel University Alumni Board. Staten is retired from the State of
Tennessee where she has long been an advocate for the care and protection of children.
 
The Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented to Bethel University alumni
under 40 years of age who have achieved a high level of success since their graduation
from Bethel. Susannah B. Lewis is a 2007 graduate of Bethel’s College of Professional
Studies. She is an author, a freelance writer, a blogger, a humorist, a wife of one and
mother of two. She has self-published four books including “Unfortunate Ursula
Underwood,” “Suspicion on Sugar Creek,” “The Charm of the Defeated: A Collection of
Southern Short Stories” and “Ten Years Taken” (all available through Amazon) and has
been featured on various websites, including Erma Bombeck’s Humor Writers, TODAY
 
Maharrey, Staten and Lewis will be presented their awards during the 2017
Homecoming Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m.
 
The event will be held in the Vera Low Center for Student Enrichment on Bethel’s
McKenzie campus. Tickets to the Homecoming Dinner are $15/person and must be
