Carol Nanney Named Teacher Of Year

McKenzie, Tenn.—Carol Nanney, librarian at the McKenzie Elementary School, has been named Teacher of the Year for West Tennessee.
She received the award at the 2017-2018 Tennessee Teacher of the Year banquet September 28 held in Nashville.
Nanney earlier had been named a finalist along with eight other teachers from West, East and Middle Tennessee. The other two West Tennessee finalists were: Mandy Fraley of Northeast Middle School in Jackson; and Stephanie Rice of Collierville.
Nanney said, “First we must believe in the value and importance of human connections. Our students come to us from a variety of backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and a wide variety of skill sets. We must not only be conscious of our students’ learning styles and abilities, but also their interest, personality and background. These necessary human connections are established by building a level of trust in the classroom.”
Nanney will serve two years on the Commissioner’s Teacher Advisory Council.
