State Officials Promise New Traffic Light In Dover

Dover, Tenn.—The people of Dover—and those who drive through it—got good news from TDOT at a town hall Friday: a dangerous intersection that has been the scene of several serious accidents, including fatalities, will finally get a traffic light.
A fiery crash last week at the intersection of Hwy. 79 and The Trace (State Route 461) prompted a renewed call by the public for action at that intersection. State Sen. Mark Green hosted the town hall, at which TDOT and state and local officials were in attendance.
Green and TDOT officials announced that even though the intersection doesn’t meet all criteria, the state will make exceptions to install a traffic light there.
TDOT officials said criteria for justifying traffic lights include the volume of traffic at intersections, but in this case, TDOT has now included the number of crashes, which in the case of this intersection, is five in the last 12 months.
They said the turn lane from 79 onto The Trace road will be widened and rubber disks will be placed on the road for more visibility for drivers.
