Paris, Tenn.—The Shed has moved into its new building, which means a lot more donations can be stored for those in need in Henry County.
The Shed is the brainchild of Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy Michelle Brewer, who, as a School Resource Officer, saw the needs of many children. She began collecting clothing and other items for children and soon expanded that to include items for families.
The Shed is a collection point where people donate a wide range of items, from clothing to hygiene items and they are given out to families in need, no questions asked and with no red tape.
The Shed has been operating out of a donated shed at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and now has moved into a new, larger building—which also was donated—and which is also located in the back parking lot at the sheriff’s office.
The new 1,500 square foot building was donated by Derksen Portable Buildings of Cottage Grove, which also constructed it on site. Brewer is especially excited that the building will have both heat and air conditioning. “That will be really nice,” she said. “We’re out here in all kinds of weather and it can get really hot and really cold when we’re working”.
Brewer said, “We got into our new Shed building yesterday” and said she is so thankful for the bigger building in which to organize donations. “We are so thankful and blessed,” she said, thanking the donors who made the new building possible and thanking all the volunteers who help her each week sorting and organizing the donations that come pouring in.
She said the original Shed will still be used for drop-offs and drop-off hours have been expanded from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Brewer said donors and volunteers helped 28 children from pre-Kindergarten through high school to get ready for back to school. “This doesn’t even include the other families from babies to elderly. When you drop off, you never know just how you help someone else.”
