HC Schools, PSSD In First STEM Innovation Network

Nashville – Henry County Schools and Paris Special Schools are included in Tennessee’s first STEM Innovation Network. This year, 45 educators representing 24 counties across Tennessee have been competively selected.
They include Henry County High School, with Faye Hooper as representative; and Inman Middle School, with Sandi Bigham.

The STEM is public/private partnership between the Tennessee Department of Education and Battelle Education and has launched the first Tennessee Rural STEM Collaborative – a yearlong, cohort based training for rural educators designed to share promising practices in STEM education, seek solutions to local education challenges, and develop capacity to promote lasting change within their own communities.
“The Rural STEM Collaborative brings together a geographically diverse group of educators passionate about providing the highest quality STEM instruction for their students and exposing them to career opportunities,” said Wes Hall, Director of the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network. “The Collaborative offers an opportunity to support access to STEM for all students, regardless of zip code.”
Within the Collaborative, there are three regional cohorts that will map the STEM resources and potential partners unique to the educational landscapes in West, Middle, and East Tennessee. The Collaborative provides a stipend for teachers to engage with the program and implement their proposed solution within their own communities. For more information, visit www.tsin.org/rural.
