Weakley Co. Shows State’s Highest Unemployment

Nashville, Tenn. – Overall, Tennessee’s county unemployment rates for July 2017 showed improvement in a large number of counties, but one of our local counties—Weakley—is now ranked as having the highest unemployment in the state at 7.4 percent.
For Weakley County, that is a huge jump from its June unemployment, which was at 5.6 percent.
Also in our area, Houston County is ranked 91st in highest unemployment, with 6.5 percent, a jump from 6.3 percent in July.
Forty of Tennessee’s 95 counties bettered their unemployment rates, compared to June 2017 and 31 counties saw no movement at all—that would include Henry, Stewart and Carroll Counties–during the latest survey.
Once again, Henry County showed the lowest unemployment in our area at 4.8 percent, the same as it was in June. Obion County is at 6.1 percent, up from 5.8 percent in June.
Benton County In our area, Benton County is the only county to show improvement, at 6 percent, down from 6.1 percent in June.
Carroll County remains at 5.7 percent and Stewart remains at 5.8 percent.
