Paris, Tenn.—A McKenzie woman was killed and two others injured—one seriously—in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 79S between Paris and McKenzie Monday afternoon. The accident involved an SUV which collided with an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer.
Killed in the accident was Stacey Couturier, age 37, who was a passenger in the SUV driven by Matthew Griffin, age 33, of Martin. Griffin was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition. A spokeswoman at Vanderbilt said Griffin is still in the hospital emergency room being treated this morning.
Also injured was the driver of the 18-wheeler, Billy Osburn, age 42, of Paris. The extent of his injuries and where he was taken is not listed in the report.
The accident happened at the intersection with Old State Highway 76.
According to Lt. Brad Wilbanks of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, who released the report this morning, Osburn was attempting to make a right turn with the tractor-trailer onto a field road when Griffin attempted to pass him on the right in the emergency lane of the highway.
The two vehicles collided and Couturier was ejected from the SUV.
