Audit Leads To Scuttling Of Reelfoot Visitors Center

Tiptonville, Tenn.—Despite all the hoopla that surrounded the groundbreaking for the $2 M interpretive visitors center at Reelfoot Lake State Park, construction on the project has ground to a halt.
An audit has identified possible bidding improprieties involving the project and state officials now say the visitors center most likely will be torn down—after $700,000 in public funds has already been spent.
The visitors center is partially completed and vacant.
State officials now say it may be prudent at this point to disassemble the building and sell the material for scrap.
