Paris Housing Emergency Repair Program One Of A Kind

Paris, Tenn.—The Paris Housing Authority was recognized Thursday for its participation in the USDA Emergency Repair program, which is the only one of its kind in Tennessee.
A proclamation was presented to Terry Fuller, a long-time Paris City Commissioner who also is chairman of the Housing Authority, by Mary Hickman of the USDA.
Hickman praised the local program, which she said has already spent $32,500 on emergency repairs for 13 local homes so far this year.
Also at Thursday’s Housing Authority meeting, it was announced that the next Preserve Paris neighborhood clean-up program will be held September 30 in the N. Porter Street neighborhood.
Work is steadily progressing with selection of participating homes in the $350,000 HOME grant that was earlier awarded to Paris. Tim Belton of the NW Tennessee Development District, said the top ten homes have been selected for the program.
The first two homes on the list were found not to qualify because the needed repairs exceeded the limit of $40,000. The third home on the list does qualify and the bid process will be the next step, he said.
