Puryear, Tenn.—A Puryear man who allegedly drew a gun and threatened a Henry County Sheriff’s deputy last week turned himself in to law enforcement Monday.
Bruce Ivy, age 52, of 210 School St., was charged with assault on an officer, evading arrest, and violation of the sex offender registry act.
According to Sheriff Monte Belew, Ivy turned himself in to Puryear Police Chief Dale Paschall, who transported him to the jail.
During the altercation that brought about the arrest, Deputy Cpl. Blake Jenkins was on patrol Thursday night and spotted Ivy and a woman standing in front of a house in Puryear and knew that both were being sought on active warrants. The woman, Carol Thompson, age 34, also of Puryear, was arrested at the scene.
Ivy ran to the side of the house and then into a nearby camper where he yelled at Jenkins that he had a gun and would shoot. Ivy then took off running into a cornfield.
Law enforcement, including deputies, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Puryear Police and two Sheriff’s Office K9s were employed in a lengthy but unsuccessful search that night.
