Tyson Foods In UC To Add Over 300 Jobs

Union City, Tenn.—Tyson Foods in Union City is planning an expansion that will add more than 300 jobs in the area.
At tonight’s meeting of the Union City City Council, Plant Manager Keith Riley said the expansion will allow the Tyson Foods complex to process more of its own chickens. The expansion will include additional growers, a building addition of approximately 25,000 square feet and an investment in additional equipment for the plant, hatchery, feed mill and live production.
Total planned investment in the expansion is in excess of $80 M. It will create more than 300 new positions for Tyson employees in addition to adding more growers.
Council approved a tax abatement agreement for the expansion that will see a 100 percent tax abatement for the first five years, 75 percent for the next five years, 50 percent for the following five years and 25 percent for the final five.
The Tyson plant opened in 1997 and currently employs over 1000 people and 74 growers.
Tyson last year had a payroll of $31.9 M, with annual payout to growers of over $15 M, local grain purchased annually of $28.6 M and expenditures with local vendors of $3.8 M.
