Sheriff’s Office Clarifies Rumors On Undercover Agent

Dresden, Tenn.—Weakley County Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan has cleared up rumors circulating following the injury of an undercover agent this week.

McGowan said there have been several questions asked about the incident, which led to the arrest of George “Billy” Wolfe being charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and drug charges after the undercover agent was pushed from a moving car.
McGowan said the questions involve the undercover agent. “An undercover agent is not a police officer,” he said. “It is a civilian working with the police. There have been comments made that it was someone we got out of jail to do this. That is not true.”
In this case, the person working for the sheriff’s office was not facing charges herself. “We have several different people who help us from time to time just like every other police agency, that are paid money when drug purchases are made. That was the case in this incident.”
The undercover agent was airlifted to The Med with broken bones and possible internal injuries. McGowan said there is no update on her condition.
