Dresden, Tenn.—A Dresden man has been charged with attempted murder, along with kidnapping and drug charges, after he allegedly pushed an undercover agent out of a car in Union City. The incident began during an undercover operation in Weakley Co.
Weakley County Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan said the undercover agent was airlifted to The Med in Memphis with broken bones and possible internal injuries.
George William (Billy) Wolfe Jr. was charged with investigators from Weakley Co. with sale of meth within 1000 feet of a school, conspiracy to commit the sale of meth and kidnapping. He is charged by the Union City Police with attempted murder.
A second man, Jerame Sweatt, age 39, was charged by Weakley Co. with sale of meth within 1000 feet of a school, conspiracy to commit the sale of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia and evading arrest.
McGowan said more people will be charged in connection with the case.
The incident began when the undercover agent made a controlled purchase of meth from Sweatt at a location in Dresden that is within 1000 feet of the Head Start program there, McGowan said. It is alleged that Sweatt was provided the meth to sell by Wolfe, McGowan said.
Later Tuesday afternoon, Wolfe picked up the undercover agent and took them to another house in Dresden that also is within 100 feet of the Head Start and sold them more meth. McGowan said the transaction was videotaped.
Wolfe became suspicious of the agent and drove them to Union City, where it alleged Wolfe pushed the agent out of his truck while it was moving. This also was videotaped, McGowan said.
Earlier today, a search warrant was served by Weakley County Sheriff’s investigators in connection with these incidents at a home on Locust St. in Dresden, where drug paraphernalia was recovered.
McGowan said Sweatt was at the house and while being questioned, he ran from the house but was caught a short time later by Investigator Eric Smith behind the Dresden Specialty Clinic.
