Henry County Poll Workers Needed

By Shannon McFarlin WENK/WTPR News Director
Paris, Tenn.—Henry County Elections Officials will be hosting a poll workers’ drive to seek people to help with the 2018 elections. The drive will be held at 5 p.m. August 22, at the Krider Performing Arts Center in Paris.
Elections Director DeLaina Green said there is a need for poll workers because 15 stepped down following this year’s elections. “Our goal is to receive 25 applications. That way, we would have an alternate for each of the 13 precincts.”
Green said she is asking Henry County citizens who are interested in working in the election process to attend the event. “You must be a registered Henry County voter to work,” she said. Applications to register to vote and to work will be available at the event.
Green said the election process and job responsibilities will be explained. Poll workers are paid, she said.
Former poll workers will be on hand to answer questions of citizens in attendance.
Green also looked ahead to Voter Registration Day on September 26. The Elections officials will be making a big push to register as many voters in Henry County.
She said she will be appearing at the Henry County High School to register 17-year-olds to vote and appear at other central locations, such as the Rhea Public Library.
Currently in Henry County, there are 18,894 registered voters, although 1,355 of those are classified as inactive. There are 21,000-22,000 citizens who are qualified to vote.
