Historical Society Hears About Newspaper History

Paris, Tenn.—Members of the Henry County Historical Society were entertained by a program presented by Jimmy Williams, former long-time production manager at the Paris Post-Intelligencer. Williams still writes the garden column for the newspaper and spoke about the often turbulent history of the early newspapers in Henry County.
The Historical Society also elected officers, with County Historian David Webb being reelected as President. Other officers: First Vice President Pete Lackey; Second Vice President Mike Garner; Secretary/Treasurer Rick Owens; and three new board of directors’ members: Ray Harding, Bill Harber and Barton Robison.

Webb presented a second printing of the book “As If They Were Ours” a history of Camp Tyson, the nation’s only WWII barrage balloon training camp. The book is by Shannon McFarlin of Paris, and is a companion book to the “Camp Tyson” pictorial history book published by Arcadia Publishing.
“As If They Were Ours” is available for purchase now at the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center and will be available shortly at local gift stores. The pictorial history of Camp Tyson is also available locally. Both are also available for purchase on amazon.com and on the publishers’ websites.
Members also looked over items donated to the Historical Society from the Inman Estate. The collection included memorabilia from Grove and Inman Schools and the original sheet music for “The Hill”, written about Grove Hill.
