Paris, Tenn.—Children in Paris now have several spots where they can get free books anytime they want, thanks to the W.G. Rhea Library.
The library has installed Little Libraries with free children’s books and they have placed them at the playground in the Eiffel Tower Park, outside the Cash Saver store at 1301 W. Wood St., and outside the Eagle Food convenience store at 907 E. Wood St.
Children’s Librarian Kayla Nation said, “Our goal was to put the Little Libraries in more areas around town, especially for kids who normally don’t get to come to the library. In a perfect world, kids would have access to books all the time and we’re just trying to help.”
The Little Libraries are stocked with books each week and Nation said, “They do go pretty fast.”
The initial concept was for people to take a book and leave a book, but most people don’t do that. “But we have a number of people who donate children’s books to us just for this,” Nation said.
Anyone who would like to donate books for the Little Libraries can bring them to the W.G. Rhea Library at 400 W. Washington St. at any time during business hours.
The Atkins-Porter Neighborhood Association also is in the process of constructing a Little Library that will be installed outside the Atkins-Porter Dog Park at the corner of Highland and Walnut Streets.
