Union City, Tenn.—Union City Police didn’t get the suspect they started out looking for, but they did get another on evading and drug charges after a chase Saturday afternoon.
Roy Andrew Smith, age 23, of Jackson, was arrested on charges of evading arrest and possession of marijuana and his 2008 Honda motorcycle was seized by Union City Police.
According to the report, police had been alerted that a suspect was coming into town eastbound on a black motorcycle and officers converged in the West Reelfoot Ave. area. A black motorcycle was spotted in the 400 block of West Reelfoot and when officers performed a U-turn to pull in back of him, the driver accelerated.
A chase ensued in which the motorcycle sped to 80-90 mph. Officers lost sight of him in the area of the library and then spotted him stopped at a red light.
When officers caught up to him, he was parked between an SUV and a pickup truck and officers saw movement under the SUV. Smith was placed under arrest for evading and officers determined he was not the suspect they were looking for. Officers then looked under the SUV and found a plastic bag containing 37.6 grams of marijuana.
