Parnell Sentenced To Prison

Paducah, Ky.—Appearing today in U.S. Federal Court in Paducah, former Fulton County Jailer Ricky Parnell was sentenced to 87 months in prison in connection with the kickback scheme at the Fulton County Detention Center.
Parnell earlier pleaded guilty to 10 counts of fraud and conspiracy.
According to the press release from U.S. Attorney John E. Kuhn Jr., Parnell was ordered to pay $154,000 in restitution and $100,000 in fees. He was released on bond and will report to begin serving his jail time at a later date.
“Public corruption simply cannot be tolerated,” Kuhn said in the press release.
Parnell is accused of coordinating a scheme in which he conspired with contractors and suppliers to overcharge the county for which he received kickbacks. Four contractors already have been sentenced following the investigation by the FBI and Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.
