Union City, Tenn.—What began as a traffic stop for a light violation ended up in the seizure of a large amount of meth, drug paraphernalia, a car and cash and the arrest of two people by Union City Police Sunday evening.
Arrested were Enelson Nunez, age 27, of 931 E. Cheatham, Union City; and Christian Salazar, age 24, of Sebree, Ky. Nunez was charged with possession of meth, while Salazar was charged with possession of meth to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police also seized the vehicle of Ashton Wilson of Slaughters, Ky. Because she had admitted to police she knew they were transporting meth in a backpack in the car.
When all was said and done, with the help of Officer Scott Watkins’ K9 Bator, police found 12.38 grams of meth, digital scales, a meth pipe, marijuana pipe, marijuana grinder, another .5 grams of meth folded inside cash, and $1,279 in cash, all of which was seized.
According to Officer Watkins’ report, when their car was stopped in the 2000 block of North Everett Blvd., there was movement in the back seat as he was walking up to the car and when he was asking questions of Wilson about whether there were drugs or weapons in the car, she was acting in a suspicious manner.
Watkins said he asked Wilson if he could search the car and she said there was no reason to search it. He then told her he had his K9 Bator who would be doing a free air sniff around the car. Watkins said Bator alerted positively to the driver’s side and rear passenger side. At that point, Watkins told Wilson he would be conducting a probable cause search and Wilson then became very upset and crying, saying that yes, there were drugs in the car.
During the course of the search, Wilson told officers that Nunez was known in Kentucky for selling and transporting crystal meth and that they always hauled the drugs in the backpack.
