Murray, Kentucky—An explosion caused by a gas leak at the new Richmond dormitory on the Murray State University campus ripped a huge hole in the front of the ground floor.
The Kentucky State Police confirmed that one person was injured and is in stable condition after a ground ambulance transported him to a local hospital. The KSP said multiple emergency units are on the scene.
The explosion, which occurred around 5 p.m., was reportedly felt over a large area in Murray.
Murray State University sent out a message on Facebook telling everyone to stay away from the scene. An eyewitness, Taylor Black, said a Med Evac helicopter landed at the scene.
A spokesman for the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office told WENK/WTPR that he will be sending out an update for the media on the situation shortly.
