Paris, Tenn.—Two Henry County Sheriff’s deputies who pulled an unconscious woman out of a burning car in May, saving her life, were awarded with the State of Tennessee Governor’s Award this morning in Nashville.
Cpl. Blake Jenkins and Deputy Stacey Bostwick saved the life of Christina Hollingsworth, age 34, of Paris, when they pulled her from the burning car on May 27 of this year. Hollingsworth had been in a vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy. 79 and India Rd.
When the officers arrived, the car was in flames and Hollingsworth was unconscious inside the vehicle. Hollingsworth was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center where she underwent several surgeries. Back in Paris, she has undergone lengthy physical therapy and continues to make improvements.
The Governor’s Award is given to first responders who go above and beyond in the line of duty while sacrificing their own safety to help others.
Sheriff Monte Belew said, “We are very proud that Blake and Stacey were chosen for this distinguished award. They exemplify what it means to be a deputy in Henry County.”
Jenkins and Bostwick were accompanied to the awards ceremony by their families, Belew, Chief Deputy Damon Lowe and Capt. Adam Jenkins.
