McKenzie, Tenn.–McKenzie Fire & Rescue are in the process of installing a Safe Baby Box at the fire station in downtown McKenzie. Fire officials said, “While the Safe Haven Baby Box has now been placed within the fire department wall, there are still a few remaining phases to complete before it becomes fully operational. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring this life-saving resource to our community and have a community that meets the needs.” Currently, the nearest Safe Haven Baby Boxes are located in Jackson (39 miles away) and Murray, KY (35 miles away), with the next closest option being almost 100 miles away. This addition will help close that gap and provide a safe, anonymous option for those in need—right here in our area. The Fire Department will announce when the Safe Baby Box is operational.
