
Stewart County Deputies responded to a call of a person on the Ned McWherter Bridge at Paris Landing threatening to jump off the bridge Monday.
Deputy Zach Grizzard and Lt. Robbie MacDonald arrived on the scene and found a young man sitting on the side of the bridge with his feet over the water and he was threatening to jump. The deputies talked with the young man until Capt. Sam Mills arrived. Capt. Mills is the trained negotiator for the Sheriff’s Office. Also Investigator Dana Saltkill arrived on scene along with Deputy Grayden Grise.
Deputies were able to start a dialogue with the young man and keep his attention diverted until Lt. MacDonald was able to move close enough to get hold of him. At that point other deputies were able to assist in pulling him back onto the roadway. The young man was then transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
In a statement, Sheriff Frankie Gray the deputies for their quick response,compassion and professionalism in preventing a possible tragic incident. All the Law Enforcement Deputies on the scene are to be commended.
