Union City, Tenn.–Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for quality—the highest distinction from the federal agency. The hospital is one of only five hospitals in Tennessee to be awarded five stars. Henry County Medical Center in Paris also received five stars.

“Providing quality care to our patients is of utmost importance to our physicians and health care professionals,” said Skipper Bondurant, administrator and chief executive officer. “These ratings show that our team is committed to hard work and is dedicated to delivering excellent care daily. We are honored to serve our community, and I am so proud that Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City has been recognized as being among our nation’s best.”

Baptist Union City is one of only five hospitals in Tennessee to be awarded five stars. The ratings are based on 46 quality measurements from five categories: mortality, safety, readmissions after treatment of common conditions, patient experience, and timely and effective care. An overall star rating is also based on how well a hospital performs across different areas of quality, such as treating heart attacks and pneumonia.

CMS rated more than 3,000 hospitals across the nation on a scale of one to five stars. Of these hospitals 429 hospitals received five stars. Medicare based the star rating on measures that include patient reviews and outcomes and infection rates. The government agency created the rating system to help consumers evaluate and compare quality care among hospitals in their communities.

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City is a 137-bed licensed facility located in the northwest corner of Tennessee. Medical services include inpatient and outpatient surgery,

inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, coronary intensive care, cancer treatment, a sleep disorders center, a 24-hour emergency room, telemedicine, imaging and laboratory services. The hospital also offers labor and delivery services and delivers the most babies in the area as part of the largest maternity and women’s health care facility in Northwest Tennessee.
