Waverly, Tenn.–Waverly Police Officers responded to a residence on East Main Street of a Burglary in progress. A homeowner, whose home had been flooded during the August floods, arrived home to find two suspects, identified as Phillip Dotson of Dickson, and Michelle Mangrum of McEwen, rummaging through her home and garage.
When Sgt.’s Chris Taylor and Shaun Wilson arrived they found the suspects in the yard and took them into custody. According to the report, they admitted to attempting to remove items from the property. Both suspects were charged with Aggravated Burglary and were held in the Humphreys County Jail.
“It’s absolutely disgusting that people are taking advantage of people at this most difficult moment. If you come to Waverly with the intention of stealing and taking advantage of flood victims, we are going to find you and lock you up. I don’t think you want to be judged by a Humphreys County Jury at this point in time.” said Chief Grant Gillespie. “We encourage everyone to report anyone suspicious in your neighborhood and to keep your property, tools and construction material locked up.”
The Police Department encourages the use of video cameras and alarms to help protect your property. Suspicious activity can be reported by calling a dispatcher at 931-296-7792 or dialing 911. Call as soon as you observe any suspicious activity so that officers can immediately respond.
