Cottage Grove, Tenn.–A Cottage Grove home was destroyed by fire Thanksgiving night. Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Weiher the most likely cause of the fire was the use of auxiliary heat.

The department was called to the frame home at 1050 Rowe School Road around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. “The fire was already coming through the roof when we arrived at the scene,” Weiher said.

The occupant was unharmed but reportedly lost all her belongings. She was next door at the neighbor’s when the department arrived. “The Red Cross has been called to assist her,” he said.

The department received automatic mutual aid from the Paris Fire Department and firefighters stayed on the scene for some 4 1/2 hours last night. Firefighters were called back to the scene this morning for some 2 1/2 hours when the fire rekindled, he said.
