Obion Co. Central Farm To School Receives USDA Grant

occhs-farm-to-school

Troy, Tenn.–Stuart Watson, Ag Science Teacher at Obion County Central High School, led Samantha Goyret and Caroline Ideus, of the NWTN Local Food Network, on a tour through his school greenhouse facilities. Watson has put much time into teaching his students all about creating the perfect environment for plants to thrive. The students then get to see their hard work pay off through a greenhouse sale where they sell their matured and beautiful plants. One of his main goals is to encourage the ideology that growing your own food is possible, fun, and can be incredibly rewarding.
Obion County School’s was recently rewarded a grant administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help bring fresh, local foods into schools, increase agricultural and nutrition education opportunities, and foster economic opportunity for America’s farmers over the next school year.
