Big Sandy Police Seek Henry County Man After Fleeing From Pursuit

Big Sandy, Tenn.–Big Sandy Police are seeking a Henry County man on multiple charges after he crashed his car and fled on foot during a pursuit Saturday.
Matthew Gene Smith of Springville is wanted on charges of felony evading, reckless driving, driving while revoked and suspened, and drug paraphernalia. Big Sandy Police said he also has a felony Circuit Court warrant out of Benton County filed against him. According to the press release, Smith’s Tennessee driver’s license is revoked for a DUI and he has three suspensions for various reasons, including a previous evading from police.
On Saturday, October 23,2021 at approximately 6:15pm Big Sandy Police attempted to stop a gray, Mercury Mountaineer on HWY 69A North for not having a registration plate displayed on the back.
The driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began. Speeds reached 91 MPH and continued into Henry County. The driver turned on Copper Springs Rd and eventually jumped out of the vehicle from a slow roll and fled on foot into the woods. His vehicle then rolled backward and crashed into the front of the Big Sandy Police vehicle. At a minimum, the push bar is destroyed.
