Dresden, Tenn.–By a vote of 9-6, the Weakley County Commission Thursday night rejected a resolution which would bring broadband to rural areas of the county. Three commissioners were absent from the meeting.
The Commission met for a special-called meeting, nixing a proposal from WK&T to cover the unincorporated parts of the county. According to the presentation, cost to the county would be $10.5M, which would have been matched equally by WK&T. The project was to have begun in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
Some 60 citizens were on hand for the meeting and County Mayor Jake Bynum, WK&T officials and many citizens have voiced disappointment with the vote on social media.
Last month, the Henry County Commission unanimously approved a resolution to provide broadband throughout the county, along with WK&T.
