Clarksville, Tenn.–And now for something completely different. A Fort Campbell driver was charged with DUI after his vehicle crashed into an apartment in Clarksville–several feet off the ground.

Rahul Malakar, age 18, crash landed into the bedroom of the apartment, where the resident had been in bed and was trapped underneath the vehicle.

At 01:26 am, Clarksville Police responded to the 2000 block of Tiny Town Road for a vehicle crash. When they arrived they found a 2013 Hyundai Sonata crashed into an apartment building.

The vehicle had left the roadway and travelled down an embankment and then climbed another embankment, became airborne, and crashed into the bedroom of an apartment several feet off of the ground.

A resident of the apartment was in bed in that room at the time of the crash, and became trapped underneath the vehicle. The resident of the apartment was transported to Nashville with non life-threatening injuries. The driver, 18 year old Rahul Malakar of Ft. Campbell, was charged with DUI, Vehicular Assault, and Reckless Endangerment. This is still an on-going investigation and toxicology results are pending.

Also, the apartment building has been structurally condemned. As a result, 12 adults and 4 children have been displaced. The Red Cross responded quickly and helped to provide accommodations for all of them.
